Background

For the better implementation of communication, education and public awareness (CEPA) programmes on wetland conservation, a Pan-Asian network, known as the WLI-Asia network has been established. The network is facilitated jointly by the Hong Kong Wetland Park (HKWP) and the World Wide Fund for Nature (Hong Kong) (WWFHK) as the interim coordinator.

The First Wetland Link International Asia Symposium (WLI-Asia Symposium) will be held at HKWP from 24 - 26 January 2007. It is a step forward to promote the concept of WLI-Asia and facilitate communication and to enhance in-depth information exchange and experience sharing across the Asia-Pacific region.

The 3-day programme will include opening ceremony, keynote speeches, panel discussions, workshops, exhibitions as well as site visit and post-symposium programmes. Topics to be covered may include:

  • Implementation of CEPA programmes
  • Planning and development of wetland education centres
  • Habitat management
  • Volunteer Programme
