Science Projects. Elementary School teachers almost always require students to do at least one science project before they finish the fifth grade. Elementary science projects are easy to find, but finding the right project for your child can be a challenge. Here are five hints to help you find the best project for your grade school child.
1. Find out what type of project your science teacher requires. There are many types of projects, and most elementary schools give a range of choices. Does your teacher want an experiment, a demonstration, a collection, a report, or a model? Knowing what kind of project you need will narrow down your choices considerably.
2. Make a list of things that interest your child. What subjects catch your child’s eye on television or in books – space, animals, buildings, computers, explosions? Does your child need instant gratification? Consider a chemistry experiment with dramatic results, such as “Which Fruit has the Most Vitamin C?” Is your child concerned about the environment? Good Science Fair Projects – Two Problems For Parents

Figuring out what the elementary science teacher is looking for in a project can be challenge. There are science teachers who will just give out good science fair projects to send home with the students to do. For the youngest grades the whole class might do the same project. By second or third grade they might send home a list of projects to choose from. The older grades might get a specific topic and specific choices of websites to use. By middle and high school, they most likely are on their own, send home the topic, the requirements and let them find their own. On top of that, each teacher you run across will treat the whole thing in a slightly different way.
Here are two of the biggest problems parents face with good science fair projects for their children.
Problem #1 is misunderstanding the assignment.
Nine time out of ten, everything is clearly spelled out on the science fair assignment sheet that was sent home. Lots of schools also have these things posted online. It is very important that the parent reads this carefully. This is true even for the middle school students. You want to make sure they project chosen matches the assignment. Choosing The Best Science Fair Projects

While there may be no shortage of topics for science fair projects, selecting the most appropriate one may prove to be the most challenging step of the overall process. Searching in an unorganized fashion, despite having many available resources, may lead to indecision as well as frustration. Having some idea as to what may be a good topic for you prior to starting your search may help you avoid a number of potential stumbling blocks and setbacks.
One of the key factors to having a successful outcome and experience is to pick a topic that means something to you. Ideally, selecting a topic that interests you may allow you to remain focused and on task as you work to complete your project. In this way, the end result may be a perfect representation of the hard work you thoughtfully put into your finished project.
While drawing upon your particular experiences or interests may be helpful, it would also be advisable to select a topic that is actually possible for you to research. Selecting science fair projects that are interesting but difficult for you to research adequately may lead to frustration, and a less than satisfactory end result.
